HOUSE OF COMMONS is the first edition of an international contemporary art event dedicated to the commons and intersectionality as the driving principles of a curatorial project.
It gathered collaborative and critical projects that confront contemporary forms of domination and draw on the notion of the 'commons'. Uniting research, exhibition and knowledge through a ‘commoning’ or ‘commonalising’, this edition of the biennale presented historic and recent works, reactivations and new occurrences, as well as newly commissioned projects, including a set of three ephemeral architecture pavilions.
All theseworks and projects were connected through a circuit that runs around the island of Jeløya, the town of Moss and the Oslo fjord, with Galleri F 15, Kunstgalleri, S-AR architecture studio's pavilions, and public space as main venues in Moss, Norway.
In addition, exploratory residencies (SOLARIS in Bordeaux, France, and BAR project in Barcelona, Spain) and coproductions (MOT in Tokyo, Japan) further contributed to the transnational dimension of this year's biennale.
